For nearly five decades, the Iowa State Dance Team Championships have showcased the talents of Iowa's young athletes. Iowa PBS will once again provide exclusive exclusive coverage of the event, featuring highlights of all the winning routines and busy backstage action. The 2024 Iowa State Dance Team Championships will premiere on the statewide network Saturday, January 27 at 7 p.m. and be rebroadcast Sunday, January 28 at 1 p.m.

More than 5,000 of Iowa’s top young dance athletes showcased their talents in what is considered to be one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious events of its kind. The dance championships were held in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena and Hy-Vee Hall on November 29-30 and December 1, 2023.

“The talent, creativity and technical skills are more impressive every year as Iowa’s top young dance athletes bring their best to this competition,” said Iowa PBS Producer and Director Judy Blank. “Witnessing this event in person inspires in me a sense of pride and hope which I believe viewers will also value and enjoy.”

The two-hour, fast-paced coverage is hosted by Executive Director of the Iowa State Dance Team Association Andrea Dana, ISDTA Board President Stacie Horton and dance championships event announcer Scott Enyart. Teams from approximately 250 high schools and 25 colleges competed for state championship honors, performing in a variety of categories including pom, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, kick, lyrical, prop, novelty, color guard, co-ed and all-male.

Funding for the 2024 Iowa State Dance Team Championships is provided by Friends of Iowa PBS.
