Baruthio's Holiday Mulled Wine

Chef David Baruthio's holiday wine. 


  • 1 bottle of red wine (chianti or merlot)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • whole cloves
  • bay leaf
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 orange blossom tea bags
  • 1 orange


In sauce pan, combine red wine, water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, 2 or 3 whole cloves, one bay leaf, 2 star anise, and 2 tea bags. Quarter the orange and add two of the quarters to the pot. Cover and simmer til warm.
Garnish cup with another cinnamon stick and a small slice of orange.
