Frontier Education

Frontier education included simple reading, writing and arithmetic lessons in the 1800s. Most children were homeschooled.

In the early years, what education took place, took place in the home and rarely progressed any further than basic reading, writing and arithmetic. When a community grew large enough to support a school, a teacher was hired and classes were held in a primitive schoolroom or in a private home.
