Lexi Horner started dreaming about being a state swimming champion back as a freshman. Now as a junior, that dream became reality with a win in the 200 Individual Medley. She swam four different strokes faster than her competition. The Johnston swimmer finished with a time of 2:05.04. Iowa City West’s Erica Hsu was second at 2:07.04 and Ali Staver of Pleasant Valley swam a time of 2:08.86.

MyKenzie Leehy of Council Bluffs Lewis Central surprised the field in 2014 with a win in the 100 Freestyle. She was back to defend her title, but ran into the good finish from Sarah Schemmel of Muscatine. The top five finishers in this race at the 2015 IGHSAU State Swimming and Diving championships are underclassmen. Schemmel’s 50.51 earned her gold. Leehy’s time was 50.91 and Amy Feddersen of Ames was third at 53.02. Schemmel was named the meet’s outstanding swimmer as she also took gold in the 50 freestyle.
