Sometimes second can be a big motivator. Samantha Hedrick was runner-up in the 100 Butterfly in 2014. This year, the senior swimmer for the combined program of Newton, Colfax-Mingo and Pella bested the field with a time of 55.01, proving small schools can win in the combined arena. Hedrick will swim at the University of Nebraska next season. Grace Snyder of Ames recorded a time of 56.56 for second and Meghan Hackett of Cedar Falls was third with a time of 56.89.
