Hear from dancers and coaches about their personal history with this event and their love of dance as they celebrate the competition’s 40th anniversary.


More than 5,000 of Iowa’s top dancers competed in the 2016 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.  This is the 40th anniversary of the contest, which was first held in 1976 with only nine teams competing.  Today, the event is held at Wells Fargo Arena and Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, where a record-setting 270 high school teams, along with 25 collegiate teams, make this one of the largest and most prestigious dance competitions in the nation.
