Economic Outlook: July 16, 2021

Jul 16, 2021  | Ep4648

Economic reports are seen as snapshots in time of factors into the health of the economy. Two such pictures paint an image of more money required to make a purchase by consumers and those making the goods for sale. ---

The Consumer Price Index increased by 0.9 percent in June - but when reported on a year-over-year basis, the increase is the biggest in 13 years.

The inflation at the wholesale level also jumped last month - by 1 percent. Rising consumer demand and supply bottlenecks remain a big contributor to the higher prices.

Retail sales still increased in June, this time by 0.6 percent, as Americans opened up their wallets for clothing, electronics and dining out.

The 10-states surveyed in the Creighton University Rural Mainstreet Index reported above growth neutral for the eighth straight month with a reading of 65.6.
