Ask questions to clarify relationships about the role of DNA and chromosomes in coding the instructions for characteristic traits passed from parents to offspring

Driving Question

  • What causes albinism in organisms?

Probing Questions

  • Does this trait pass onto each litter of squirrels born? Is there always an albino baby?
  • What genetic/survival limitations do albino organisms have?

Classroom Suggestions

Student could:

  • Investigate the commonality of albinism in different species.
  • Determine which organisms can have albino members of their population and which ones cannot.
  • Research how albino organisms' lifespan and reproduction (fitness) rates are affected by this genetic alteration.
