The showcase will be rebroadcast Sunday, July 14 at 4 p.m. and for a limited time the program will be available for on-demand streaming on iowapbs.org and the PBS app.

The Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase is an unforgettable evening of entertainment and a celebration of the important contributions of Iowa’s high school musical theater productions.

“Every year, we walk away impressed by how the talent in the state keeps rising and with a renewed sense of hope for our future,” said Director of Education for Des Moines Performing Arts Karoline Myers. “It’s such a joy to watch young people doing what they love and uplifting to see how they are so supportive of one another.”

Throughout the year, theater professionals traveled across the state to review high school musical productions. On May 29, students from those schools came together to share highlights from their productions on the Des Moines Civic Center stage and to receive honors for their work in performance, technical and creative categories. In addition, students worked under the direction of a guest music director and choreographer from New York City to give the best performances of their young lives.

This is a not-to-be missed evening for anyone who loves musicals and believes in the power of the arts to impact young people.
