Iowa PBS offers live coverage of The Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops

With the Iowa State Capitol in the background, a crowd of people sit on the Capitol lawn looking on at the Des Moines Symphony playing. The Symphony members are in the foreground, facing away from the viewer and toward the conductor who is leading the symphony.

The Des Moines Symphony’s annual Yankee Doodle Pops returns once again to the Iowa State Capitol in a statewide broadcast for all Iowans to enjoy. Iowa PBS will provide live coverage of the popular and patriotic performance this July. The Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops will air live on Thursday, July 3 at 8:30 p.m. and be rebroadcast Friday, July 4 at 9 p.m.

The Des Moines Symphony’s 32nd annual Yankee Doodle Pops will pay tribute to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This year’s event features a variety of special performances, including renowned CBS and NBC journalist Harry Smith, hip-hop artist Billy “B.Well” Weathers, the folk duo Weary Ramblers, and the Des Moines Choral Society. And, as always, the Des Moines Symphony will perform timehonored patriotic favorites, including the 1812 Overture and Stars & Stripes Forever.

The Des Moines Symphony has partnered with Iowa PBS since 2021 to broadcast the beloved program statewide.
