Girls State Soccer Championships on Iowa PBS

Don’t miss any of the girls state soccer action! As Iowa girls battle to get their tickets punched to the state tournament, Iowa PBS is preparing for live coverage of the championship matches.

The statewide network’s commitment to girls high school sports coverage continues as teams from across the state take to the field for the 2022 IGHSAU Girls State Soccer Championships. Coverage of each class title match will take place Saturday, June 4 at James W. Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines. Each match will be broadcast live on statewide Iowa PBS and livestreamed on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and iowapbs.org.

Class 2A | 12:30 p.m.
Class 3A | 3 p.m.

Along with unparalleled coverage of the championships featuring live commentary by BJ Schaben and Justin Vorster, each halftime of the championship games will include special feature stories:

  • Sofie Leng is a senior in the South O'Brien Jazz Band. While the band has achieved modest success, Leng has been racking up outstanding soloist awards with her skills on the tenor saxophone.

  • Meet award winning young scientist Amara Orth, a senior at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs. Amara presented her project on the “Secret Sound of Bees” at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa. Her project analyzes beehive recordings to determine colony health in response to the escalating loss of honey bees.

  • Top level gymnast Kevin Chow is a junior at Valley High School in West Des Moines. Kevin has won state and regional gymnastics titles and qualified to compete at the National Championship in May of 2022. Kevin is also an Academic All-American, and enjoys bringing creativity to all of his pursuits including being a pianist.
