Iowa PBS presents Sioux City Symphony and the Legendary John Osborn

Renowned operatic tenor John Osborn and his wife, the celebrated soprano Lynette Tapia, performing onstage with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.

Enjoy a rare concert experience featuring a Sioux City native and international opera singer performing with an incredible orchestra. Sioux City Symphony and the Legendary John Osborn premieres Friday, May 26 at 8:30 p.m. on statewide Iowa PBS.

In this stunning presentation, renowned operatic tenor John Osborn and his wife, the celebrated soprano Lynette Tapia, perform some of their favorite opera arias. Sioux City Symphony and the Legendary John Osborn also features behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Osborn, Tapia and the Sioux City Symphony’s Executive Director Richard Steinbach and Music Director and Conductor Ryan Haskins. 

“Due to the pandemic, this production has been years in the making,” said Producer and Director Judy Blank. “Our work first began in 2019 and after a long delay, we’re grateful to be able to offer this remarkable performance to viewers.” 

Osborn is a native of Sioux City and a graduate of Simpson College. His early achievements include being a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and being invited to join the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Development Program in 1994. Today, John is an internationally-distinguished operatic tenor and is in demand to perform on the world’s most prestigious opera stages. 

For more than 100 years, the Sioux City Symphony has flourished, drawing musicians from nearby regions and beyond. Haskins has received international attention as an innovative and creative concert presenter. The symphony performs in the historic Orpheum Theatre.
