Welcome back to Fort Dodge for our second championship game of the day on your statewide network. Iowa PBS. The class two A champions were crowned. Congratulations, Grandview Christian. And now it is time for the class four, a matchup as the second seeded Carlisle Wildcats 36 and six take on the top seeded Aly Tigers for a class four, a state champion. As we welcome you here behind the plate in Fort Dodge, she is Aly Cappaert. I am Brad Wells and Aly. This is a rematch of 2024 and it's also a rematch between a couple Raccoon Valley Conference opponents.

These two teams are very familiar with each other. They have been the one and two seed this entire season. No surprise that we're seeing them here in the state championship.

They will decide who goes home as the best team in 2026. Let's learn a little more about each of these teams. And we begin with the visitors on the scoreboard and in the scoring ledger. Carlisle how about their 23rd trip to state? No strangers to the state tournament.

This is a team we can expect here year after year. And I tell you what, they are no different this year. It starts with Mallie Stoner in the circle. The Iowa State commit has been dealing so far this week, but these two teams split their regular season meetings, so it will be interesting to see how these two teams square up.

For Carlisle. This is their 12th appearance in the championship game. They have six titles and five runner up finishes. Let's take a look at the ADM Tigers. This is their 11th trip to States. They've been in the championship game. Now this is their sixth appearance, but they are oh and five here in the title game.

Looking for their first state championship. And it's Lauryn Hagedorn that's going to get the start in the circle today. But they are a one two punch. They have a team era of under one that is absolutely incredible. 319 strikeouts between their two aces. Hagedorn also in Iowa State, signee a little bit of cyclone power here in the game today.

All right the lights are on here at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex. And we bring in our public address announcer Tim Fitzpatrick.

She has transferred one of the premier softball complexes in Iowa into one of their premier softball facilities in the nation. Thank you, Lori, for all that you have done for the thousands of Iowa girls that have played softball on these fields over the last 45 years, we wish you nothing but the best in your retirement. Every year, the Jack North Award, named in honor of the longtime Des Moines Register sportswriter and the first IGHSAU information director, is given to the outstanding senior performer at the state basketball and softball tournaments. The Softball recipient of the Jack North Award is Emma Eekhoff of Pella High School.

[APPLAUSE]

Eekhoff was a dominant force in the Duchess Cinderella run to the class four, a state softball championship. She pitched Pella to three wins while hitting two home runs in guiding Pella to its first ever state softball title. Emma pitched at Indian River State College in Florida this spring and earned several national and conference honors. She will continue her softball career at Florida Gulf Coast University next fall. Congratulations to the 2025 Jack North Award recipient from Pella. Emma Eckhoff.

The NFO and n f honors officials each year in every state, in each sport, the recipient of the softball official of the year is Deidra Moore of Dunbar. Deidra says she was destined to be an official attending her first softball game at two days old. The daughter of official Dave Moore, she became her dad's officiating partner in softball in 2014. She has been a state tournament umpire several times and also serves as an umpire, mentor and evaluator. In addition to officiating softball, Deidra also officiates volleyball and basketball. Congratulations to the 2026 NFO Iowa Softball Official of the year, Deidra Moore.

So many great people that make the state tournament what it is. Well, the nice soft breeze continues here in Fort Dodge. Cloudy, but 75 degrees. This is a beautiful night for softball in the state of Iowa.

And this is an excited matchup. I am so excited for. So excited. I got my words mixed up there. These two teams have squared off several times throughout this season, but over the past few seasons and it all comes down to this Lauren Hagedorn versus Mallie Stoner in the circle. Both these teams, everything they got one game.

All right. We're ready to hit the dirt and decide a four. A state champion here in 2026. As the ADM Tigers will be on defense to begin with. Shore, the junior in left Troster, a senior in center field. Siedelmann, a sophomore in right left side of the infield. Noring and Smith, both sophomores, Von Roden, at second, is a sophomore at first base. Makenna Pitlick, junior Kinzie Maxwell, a junior catcher and in the pitcher's circle is Lauren Hagedorn, a senior for this ADM Tigers team. So many accomplish over her years, all state, all conference, all district and she will be playing softball at Iowa State in 2027.

Looking forward to covering more of her games. Hagedorn the ace in the circle. It's hard to say that with this ADM team because they are so, so good up and down their pitching staff. But Hagedorn gets the start today, and she's a pitcher. Carlisle really hasn't seen throughout this season. So these two teams have met up twice this season. They've only seen Hagedorn about two innings. So a fresh look and that's the thought of Coach Lindsay Stanford.

And here is the task for Hagedorn as the Carlisle Wildcats get it started with number 28. You see on the right hand side of your screen, Chloe Roling, the right fielder, followed by Oatts Freeman Stoner Benson. Then you have freshman Bowman Ellis Smith, the senior Heidemann and Hemsted Chloe Roling. The sophomore will lead things off her sweet 16 birthday was yesterday, and it ended with a victory over Fort Dodge that put her team in the state championship game.

A long day of softball. Fort Dodge Rutte Carlisle down to the wire. They didn't know if what their state championship hopes would be until last night. About 930, but here they are. State championship game. What a way to celebrate a 16th birthday. Most kids will get their driver's license. She's playing in a state championship.

Chloe Roling is a base hit machine as well. You saw her batting average? Well north of 500. Takes a swing at that one. She can drop a bunt for a base hit, and she can place a ball anywhere in the infield. Top four in all class, four A for batting average. And she leads all of class four A in stolen bases.

Hagedorn going off. Speed off the plate outside. Lauren Hagedorn in the circle for ADM yesterday. Absolutely lights out the game of her life. Two home runs at the plate, a shutout in the circle. She's looking to bring it into the championship game.

Noring fields it at third and the throw over to first is in time for out number one, retiring a dangerous hitter in Chloe Roling.

That is a huge first out. Anytime you can get the leadoff hitter, keep them off the bases. It's just a great start to the game, but especially with the speed of Chloe Roling.

Anyah Oatts, the sophomore center fielder, she hits better than 450 on the season and a first pitch strike from Hagedorn once again.

[APPLAUSE]

You can already feel the energy. Both these teams brought a large student section to take in this state championship, and there was no doubt all season it was going to be number one versus number two.

For ADM, their raccoon River conference title, their first since 2003. As this is slapped foul by Oatts and the count goes to one and two. They went 15 and one in the conference, splitting with Carlisle a seven zero loss.

One ball two.

That was on June 3rd. And then getting the win 2 to 1 on the 17th of June.

And it was the June 10th rankings. Those were the only rankings this season that had ADM number two. Carlisle number one. By June 17th, it was flipped right back to one and two, and Carlisle wants to prove those rankings wrong. ADM here to prove them right.

[APPLAUSE]

Just misses two and two.

Only two batters in and we've seen that Off-speed pitch quite a bit from Lauren Hagedorn.

[APPLAUSE]

Fouled away Anyah Oatts the batter just like the leadoff hitter. Chloe Roling very very fast. The two sophomores at the top of the order for Carlisle. Both were courtesy runners as eighth graders and ran a ton in practice. Coaches work with them all season long on perfecting it, and now, at the top of the order, that one goes just over top of Jim Flaws, showing his reflexes are still intact.

He's spent many years over in that third base coaching box, and any opportunity you can get as an eighth grader, whether it be running the bases, some playing time in practices to learn under Coach Flaws is a great opportunity.

[APPLAUSE]

Eighth pitch is grounded up the middle. Smith, the diving stop at short, but the speed by Oatts gives the Wildcats their first base runner.

Ellis Smith everything she had just to keep that ball in the infield finds a way to her knees to make the throw, and I mean would have been a phenomenal play. But you're going against the speed of Oatts.

There we go.

Coach Flaws in year number 40 showing bunt. Looking at a strike is Alyvia.

Freeman and Freeman now will switch over to the right handed batters box.

Here's the oh one bunt rolls. Foul now. No balls. Two strikes.

[LAUGHTER]

How about that. Switches over to the right hand side and still goes for the bunt. And top half of the first. For those of you who are new to watching Carlisle, softball does not matter where the foul ball goes, they are going to run it out to first.

On our way down to second, Oatts will get in without a slide. A stolen base as Kinzie Maxwell unable to get it out of her glove cleanly.

One ball, two.

Strikes, one.

Two.

And a good job by Lauren Hagedorn in the circle to that that throw. Just not in time. Hagedorn with the opportunity to cut it off. Limit any damage.

Now the one two to Freeman.

Just misses up. Count goes two and two.

Really competitive pitch by Hagedorn did miss just above the zone, but I like the location.

Inside on Freeman fouled away. It's a going to be another two two coming.

Maxwell caught almost every game this season for the Tigers. Two two and Maxwell unable to hold on to.

We'll do it again as Freeman got just enough of it.

Grounder Noring jumps to grab it in the throw.

As Pitlick foot may have came up off the base. Freeman safe at first and Oatts goes to third.

And you'll see the high throw here.

Wow, what a great call. That's safe. Freeman hit.

The brakes! Yeah, it looked like her toe might have stuck, but very close call. Tough angle. And now Carlisle threatening right away here in the first two very close plays at first base.

Got a hit on that one. That was pretty close to.

I think if she catches it with her foot on the base.

Yeah.

And may have gotten her out.

So and she made.

Error, but maybe the throw that goes high. It's a tough one. We'll wait for the official scorebook to weigh in on that one. No balls. Two strikes on Stoner here.

Freeman at second base and Maxwell now asking where that one was at as it dropped off the table. Missed low.

Mallie Stoner. The senior headed to Iowa State to play softball popped up that stays in the infield and Noring comes up to make the catch for out. Number two.

Excited for that matchup as this game continues. Just two future teammates. Both will play for the same team. Both will play the same position, so we'll compete on and off the field. Back to Freeman at bat. Looks like they did rule that a hit, an infield hit.

So two hits for Carlisle here in the first inning.

Claire Benson the batter is coach Jim Flaws is an offensive Time-out and uses it more frequently than. He does not use his offensive Time-out. Each inning.

And while Carlisle is very scrappy, when the ball is alive, they play very fast between pitches. They do take their time.

That just goes foul down the left field line. Benson a nice line drive, but Oatts goes back to third. Freeman goes back to second.

[APPLAUSE]

Claire Benson the junior, a two year starter. Huge day yesterday. Went three for four against Fort Dodge in the first game, and then had a double in the second game.

Nice pitch here by Hagedorn going up at the hands of Benson. Benson gets her hands right above it, able to foul it off, but Hagedorn is really using all corners of the plate right now. Has mixed speeds. Well in the top of the first, but Carlisle seems to be matching it.

Another zero two right on the outside corner. Benson watches it and Hagedorn with her first strikeout of the game to end the first inning. As the number one seed and the number two seed battle, it'll be the Tigers of ADM, the top seed coming to the plate.

Play our game. Let's go to work. Come on.

Head coach Lindsay Stanford. Words of advice as they will be facing this defense of the Wildcats Alyssa Eginoire, senior in left. Oatts and Roling in center and right. Both sophomores, seniors on the left side of the infield. Smith and Freeman at third and short Hyde. Him in the second baseman and junior Bowman, just a freshman at first behind the plate. Claire Benson the junior catcher, will be receiving the pitch from Mallie Stoner. The senior. As Stoner headed to Iowa State awaits Benson to begin her warm ups. And there you see her numbers from 2026.

And Stoner era just above one 159 innings pitched. She is the workhorse for this Carlisle team. You may see her come out for freshman Estella Bowman as well, but 73 strikeouts on the season to only 22 walks. A great season for Mallie Stoner.

Here at the state tournament. Seven innings against North Polk gave up two runs. Just one earned five innings against Fort Dodge. And seven innings in that final game against Fort Dodge. Here's a look at the ADM lineup, led off by Hagedorn Von Roden, Maxwell and Noring.

Okay, here we go.

So right out of the gates will get to this Iowa State commit versus Iowa State commit battle. Look at her keys to the game.

And for Carlisle to be scrappy. Like I said, when the ball is live, they are a scrappy team. They play very, very aggressive. For ADM team motto full force Tigers Tigers than double aces in the circle. Like I said, team era of under one. It does not matter who's in the circle for them, they are going to keep runners off the base paths.

[APPLAUSE]

Lauren Hagedorn a good eye at the plate.

[APPLAUSE]

And in her weak here at the state tournament, she was two for three. Monday's win over Burlington, one for three against Western Dubuque and two for four with two home runs against Western Dubuque.

[APPLAUSE]

Nice pitch outside corner Natalie Stoner throws with some good velocity. Very important for these ADM hitters. Get their front foot down on time. Make sure they're meeting her speed, let her provide the power at the plate.

Here is the two one pitch grounded to the shortstop, right through the legs of Olivia Freeman rolls all the way to the wall and Hagedorn into second base.

And that one would have been a tough play over at shortstop for Olivia Freeman. Her glove just unable to get down to it, and Hagedorn absolutely smoked that ball. You'll see rolls all the way to the fence.

An air charge to Olivia Freeman. And Elliotte Von Roden to the plate with Hagedorn at second base. Von Roden a hit in each game at the state tournament thus far.

Just to put a bunt down. It goes.

Foul playbook open here for head coach Lindsay Stanford with Von Roden the slapper. Obviously the main goal of this At-Bat is move that runner over to third base. Hagedorn runs her own bases.

Hottle one and Von Roden. Looked like she attempted at that. I thought I heard ball but pulled it back in time. So one on one to count and they do end up checking down the third base line.

Here we go.

Kim Cooksey says no offer.

And Von Roden here. I mean, like I said, goal of this at bat is to move her runner over to third base for the heart of this ADM lineup. But when she gets on, she is a threat to get moving.

That is an offer. And that's strike two, one and two. Now the count on Elliotte Von Roden, the sophomore.

State track runner.

A base runner on the 2024 team at state and the lead off in 2025. Good eye to look at that one low and away.

And Mallie Stoner trying to stay competitive on that low outside corner. Misses by about a ball too much. Unable to get the chase.

Here's the two two.

Nice drop ball. Mallie Stoner that ball looked like it was coming in right above the knees to Elliotte Von Roden. Ball ended up in the dirt. What a pitch.

Both pitchers with a strikeout in this first inning. Kinzie Maxwell will be the batter for ADM.

Strong left power hitter.

[APPLAUSE]

Put a lot of time in the off season in her batting, and head coach Lindsay Stanford said. It has paid off this season, hitting here in the three hole has an opportunity with a runner in scoring position here in the first.

And you love to see for hitters when that hard work pays off and you can just see it by the presence that they have at the plate. Not a lot of extra movement, not a lot of nerves there up at the plate. They're calm and they're getting their foot down on time, ready for the pitch.

[APPLAUSE]

Two zero grounded and almost in the spot of a beautiful bunt. But umpires are blowing it dead as it's off the foot of Maxwell.

[APPLAUSE]

Mike Lang, the first base umpire who's behind Carlisle second baseman, seeing that one making the call.

[APPLAUSE]

You could tell just the way she hit it. That ball just died right in front.

This is lasered into center field. That's a base hit over the head of Oatts around third and scoring easily in Hagedorn, sliding into second with an RBI double is Kinzie Maxwell.

What a shot. Kinzie Maxwell got absolutely all of that ball. If that thing had four feet more height, that is a line drive home run. But the double gets things going here for ADM.

[APPLAUSE]

Right in the middle Peyton Herrick.

In deep in that count, Mallie Stoner just gave too much plate to Kinzie Maxwell. We talked about the work she did in the off season and it's paying off in the state championship.

[APPLAUSE]

All right, here we go.

Pinch runner at second is Payton Herrick, sophomore. And so Aubrey Noring the hitter and ADM on the board. And Noring looks at a first pitch strike from Stoner.

[APPLAUSE]

Stoner seven innings against North Polk. Five innings against Fort Dodge on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday.

[APPLAUSE]

Carlisle faced Fort Dodge twice and pitched one and two thirds innings in the first game, gave up four runs, two of them earned in that first game of the day, then seven innings in the second game, a three hit shutout. To put the Dodgers team in the stands here at the state tournament instead of on their home field.

Fort Dodge really made Carlisle work to get to this championship game. Carlisle played four games. They played Fort Dodge three times. Yeah, and Fort Dodge gave them a fight in every single one of those games. So these pitchers have thrown quite a bit of pitches to get here this game and something to note. They were in the last game last night. So I mean they didn't wrap up until about nine 3030. Yeah. You were here. You you experienced it.

I was I was here watching it and it was it was a late evening. And I'll tell you what. 2 to 0 was the final in that last game. But 8 to 3 was the score on Tuesday. And in the first game of Wednesday, seven three was the score. Here's a grounder to the right side, fielded by Bowman.

And steps on first to retire Noring. And that's two outs. Advancing to third is Herrick.

And Noring. They're getting the job done. Placing that ball over on the right side, allowing her runner to advance to third. Well played by Bowman at first base. Sometimes that's tough as a first baseman, you get that ball with the wicked spin. Got to make sure you go down with two hands.

Pitlick the first baseman. The backup pitcher as well to Hagedorn for this ADM team.

That ball misses just outside Pitlick. A rough day at the plate yesterday. A few pop outs. Looking to start this state championship off with an RBI.

Stoner delivers the one one. This is popped up shallow center deep infield and oh a collision Freeman did she hold on to it? She did not and she went down hard and she is grabbing her knee. And that was a nasty collision.

You hate to see this. I mean all the fielders just going all out trying to make that play a tough, tough collision for Carlisle here in the first inning. I hope she's okay.

Senior Olivia Freeman.

You'll see the replay here. Both of them full speed. Oh.

And with the shift Anyah Oatts was coming from basically right center field.

And she's being helped off the field right now and not putting any pressure on that left leg.

Olivia Freeman, a senior for this Carlisle squad, a leader on this Carlisle squad, and her coaches are going to help her off the field here. I hate to see a senior season in that way. And just to put it all out on this field for her team.

And I hope Carlisle can rally around her here.

You could feel just all the energy in this entire complex, both on the sideline and the Carlisle sideline went absolutely silent after that injury. The mutual respect. Nobody wants to see that happen.

And now a time taken by Claire Benson. If you're Mallie Stoner to a little bit of a pause there. You got your fellow senior that just exited the game. And see how Stoner responds.

So Pitlick is at first, Herrick scored from third on the play. There's still two outs and here's a base hit straight up the middle for Addison Siedelmann. Two runners on now for ADM with two outs.

ADM just getting the best of Mallie Stoner here in the first inning.

They have been squaring up the softball and that hit there. I mean that's just impressive piece of hitting attack early in the count. You know Stoner is going to come with a strike. She wants to settle this game back in. Take that pitch. Drive it right back up the middle.

Finley shot to the plate. That one. Stay outside. Schaul a hit in every game for ADM here at the state tournament. Her season average above 250. One for three in the game against Burlington and Western Dubuque, and the rematch against Western Dubuque.

Home plate umpire Mark Amadeo, coach Jim Flaws. These are two people who have been around the game of softball for a very long time in our state.

Two zero Stoner hits the corner there. Two and one.

Here's the two one grounder left side coming up to field. It is Garcia off of her glove. No interference from the base runner. And Schall is aboard.

This is not a Carlisle team that we see a lot of defensive miscues from. And obviously rattled here in the first inning. Seeing a teammate get injured. So they're going to need to find a way once they get back into the dugout to to persevere through everything that has happened.

And Stoner quickly jumps ahead of Olthoff zero two count.

And looking at strike three is Olthoff two strikeouts for Stoner, but two runs for the top seeded ADM Tigers.

As we are through one. All right. Well, there have been significant changes here to the Iowa Girls State High school softball tournament this year. We have our own Iowa PBS Paul Yeager. Break it down with the details.

[MUSIC]

This year, the girls state softball tournament adopted a hybrid double elimination format leading up to the title game in round one, eight teams play in round two. The winners from round one play each other, while the losers do the same. Round three sees the loser between the round two winners play the winner of the round one. Losers who battled it out in round two in round four. The winner of the round two's winning teams takes on the winner of round three, but if the round two winner loses and both teams have one loss, the same teams play again in round five to determine who goes to the class title game. However, if they win, round five is not necessary and they automatically advance to the championship where the winner takes all.

[MUSIC]

All right, here in the class for a field Aly, we saw one team win their first three games and we saw Carlisle have to win that if necessary. Winner moves on game against Fort Dodge, and it's the top two seeds that line up here in class four.

A Fort Dodge put up a heck of a fight on the bottom half of that bracket, and Carlisle has earned their way to a state championship that that new bracket clear as mud. When you're here watching it, it actually is pretty easy to follow. Paul Yeager did a phenomenal job explaining it to our fans at home, but it's been a fun format. There has been a ton of softball played across five fields here at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex this week, and I mean some huge upsets, some huge moments. It's it's been a fun week. We're lucky to cover it.

Some people are wondering, how will we ever have that underdog story? Last year in the four a title game, Pella won it all as an eight seed in the one a championship game. As our coverage continues tomorrow, an eight seed advancing on as Edgewood Colesburg will take on defending champ Clarksville.

[APPLAUSE]

That starts our coverage at 230 pop out to first baseman Pitlick for out. Number one retires Estella Bowman.

In that two A game we just watched, Grandview Christian was the one seed.

Yes.

But they did drop their first game of the tournament on Monday. They work their way all the way through that loser's bracket up into a championship game. And won it today.

Two games on Tuesday and two games on Wednesday. And if you're in the bottom half of the bracket, if you lost that first game, you had to win one game Tuesday and then three games on Wednesday.

A lot of softball played by the Grandview Christian Thunder.

Ellis Smith a two zero pitch, fouls that one straight back facing Hagedorn. Ellis Smith a senior for this Carlisle Wildcats team.

She'll continue playing softball next season at Wartburg College. That's the welcoming environment, she said. There have been so many current Wartburg players that have come up to me and talked to me and congratulated me. It's been so welcoming, she said.

That's how you know you're going to a great program. It's the people who are involved in that program that can make it so great. And I mean, that's a really nice feeling. You're coming in as a freshman. You're nervous getting to know some of those teammates and coaches here at the state tournament helps ease a little bit of those nerves as you transition on to college.

Smith, part of Carlisle's state championship basketball team from March, here's the one two fouls. That one straight back. She has had a good tournament here in Fort Dodge as well. Went two for three in that opener against North Polk. A home run that Tim Fitzpatrick, our public address announcer, said he measured it at 260ft.

Eighth pitch of the at bat coming up for Ellis Smith from Hagedorn and Hagedorn gets the strikeout.

What a pitch. Lauren Hagedorn going low inside. We have the best vantage point right here behind home plate. And that ball fell off the table coming inside. Nice pitch by Hagedorn.

Second strikeout of the game for Hagedorn and Mira Heidemann. Comes to the plate here in the state championship game for softball. Also on that state championship basketball team she went one for three yesterday in both games against Fort Dodge. From this eight spot. Follows the zero one away. So now no balls. Two strikes from Hagedorn.

Hagedorn almost every hitter right now. Getting ahead zero two count, one two count. She wants to be ahead in the count so she can throw the movement.

They're going to check the swing. Going to say no swing by Heidemann. So one and two goes the count. Hagedorn looks fresh. He is spinning it well.

That one on the inside corner. Long throw for Smith just in time to get Heidemann out at first.

And look at this. Deep in the hole at shortstop. The long throw across the diamond. That was close. Full extension by Pitlick at first.

Good stretch here in our championship field as five fields have been in action all week long and. Lots of new additions at Harlan Rogers Park to accommodate the new double elimination format. The city of Fort Dodge and Iowa Central Community College built three new fields, complete with lights and a new press box. Now we wanted to see for ourselves Aly so we want to see what they look like from the air. Fortunately, across the street, the Fort Dodge Airport. Why don't we send up one of our videographers to give us an aerial view for Dodge's commitment to the tournament led to a 20 year extension between the IGHSAU and Rogers Park, and it ensures Rogers Park will be the home of the state softball tournament for another 20 years.

And man, when that Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union logo is out in center field, it's a wow factor here.

It's a wow factor from the sky and huge development here in this game. Olivia Freeman, the shortstop for Carlisle giving it a go. She's out there for her team. This state championship means so so much to her. Talk about some toughness there. That was a hard collision in the first inning. I mean I was questioning if we'd see her at all again in this game right away. Second inning between innings there. We kind of saw her take a jog down that right field line. And I couldn't believe it. And here she is out at shortstop.

And is wincing in pain. And we'll see how her movement is defensive when she needs to go left and right. Here at shortstop, it was her left knee that took the force of the collision. Ellis Smith is the batter. Two balls and a strike.

Stoner in the circle. Two strikeouts in the first inning, but ADM got two runs on three hits. And two Carlisle errors.

And when Mallie Stoner. Goes to that drop ball, that is the pitch she's getting these ADM hitters to chase out of the zone. I'd like to see more and more of that pitch throughout this game.

Here's the two two grounder up the middle. Heidemann from the second baseman spot. Quick throw over to first and just in time.

I do not envy the job of the umpires today. Several out calls over at first base have been so, so close. And you'll see this one here. Ellis Smith hustling down. But a nice play over at second. Getting the out with the extension from Bowman.

Infielders do not have a lot of time. Against this ADM lineup or the Carlisle batting lineup. Top of the order. Lauryn. Hagedorn comes to the plate. First batter in the bottom of the first inning, she hit a laser grounder to the left center fence that went under the legs of Olivia Freeman, the senior shortstop.

And Hagedorn yesterday. Two home runs that I mean cleared the fence by a mile. Two two run shots helped her cause in the circle.

She's probably the most dangerous bat on this ADM lineup, as well as a definite threat in the circle as well.

Lauren Hagedorn two home runs yesterday against Western Dubuque.

She had a two for Fortnite and looks at strike three Stoner with her third punchout of the game.

And Stoner gets the best of Hagedorn in that matchup. Really an impressive pitch sequence. She goes inside for strike two, paints the outside corner for strike three and Hagedorn knows it.

Takes a pitch inside for ball one. Von Roden struck out in her first at bat, but Herbert has been red hot. Multiple hits against Western Dubuque Tuesday and again against Western Dubuque in the Wednesday seven zero win for ADM, a 10 to 1 win over Burlington got the tournament started on Monday, then a six five nail biter against Western Dubuque on Tuesday and seven zero the final against the Western Dubuque Bobcats on Wednesday. A chopper high up right to Heidemann, though, was shifted in for Von Roden and a 123 inning Carlisle. Of the game. So ADM with a two nothing lead and Lauren Hagedorn will head back to the pitcher's circle.

Hagedorn has faced eight batters and she has thrown first pitch strike to all eight batters, and she has had a zero two count six times.

A pitcher that loves to work ahead and when she's ahead, her entire pitch arsenal opens up. And that's what's so, so impressive about Hagedorn is the fact that when you're behind in the count against her, you can't predict what's coming next. She throws the rise ball well, but today I mean, she's throwing the offspeed well. And also just really hitting the corners nicely in her pitch sequence.

So 912 for Carlisle here in the third Josie Hemsted the DP.

Hempstead is a batting average better than 450. 465 this season. Three RBIs against Fort Dodge. Against North Polk, she had a double in the seventh inning that produced the winning run for the Wildcats.

Nice upward movement on that pitch by Hagedorn lost the grip, but the velocity was definitely there on that pitch.

That one was up as well. Two and one. The count.

This is the first time from Hagedorn. I almost feel like she was overthrowing on those two pitches. I mean really speeding it up. You can tell from our vantage point right behind home plate, the the speed appears to be capping out for. But gripping it slightly too long, missing the zone on the upper half.

And not many times this season has Roling popped up a bunt. And ADM takes advantage. Anyah Oatts comes to the plate with two outs. She had a single in the first.

Oatts a high school wrestler, made it to the state tournament this year.

I'm still getting used to hearing high school wrestler and I mean, I absolutely love it. Just the mental toughness that sport teaches you, the physical strength.

Oatts with a hit into center field that gets past Troster. Oatts around first into second base. A stand up, two out double for Anaya. Oatts.

Amaya Oatts the M.O. With Hagedorn in the circle used the power she provides and put a good swing on the ball. She does exactly that. The left handed hitter out around that ball squares it up perfectly.

Oatts had a game winning RBI here at the state tournament against North Polk. And now Olivia Freeman. The senior shortstop comes up with two outs and a runner in scoring position. And that misses upstairs two zero. The count. If you're just joining us Freeman at shortstop had to leave the game. There was a collision on a pop fly in shallow center field. Her knee to nasty contact, and she was carried off the field by her coaches and a half inning later, we saw her jog down to the outfield fence.

You can see her just walking pretty gingerly between pitches here. You can tell it's still affecting her. But I mean, talk about the toughness. This is the last game of your senior year, laying it all out in a state championship. Hagedorn going off speed to even this count back up.

Here's the two two holds off trying to take third base and get it in there safely is Oatts.

In for ADM? They were actually lucky Oatts slid the way she did because that ball bounced up into Oatts chest. That kept the ball in front of third base here. If Oatts doesn't knock this down as the runner, she's scoring.

For Stoner, the Allstate pitcher state champion in softball and basketball, grew up in Iowa State. Fan and this season, Aly. How about the school record for the fewest walks in a season? Just six walks coming into the state tournament, I believe, by my count, added just one more all week long.

Incredible. I mean, just attacking the zone. And the thing is, it's it's not that she's throwing strikes every single pitch. It's there's I mean, she there's throwing strikes and then there's producing strikes and creating strikes. Her ability to throw it outside the zone and still create strikes is what makes her so, so impressive in the

Noring ran the bases back in 2024 when ADM made it to the state championship game, jumped into third base

A tough pitcher to start chipping away at Hagedorn throws with velocity. And while Stoner goes more with that downward movement Hagedorn you're going to see the rise ball. You're going to see her attack corners. So those two will be teammates next year at Iowa State. One with the upward movement, one with the downward movement. That's a pretty good combo.

up. It's. I mean it's tough as a pitcher to do that the entire game zero two count on every single hitter. But it it is one of those things that you pay attention to if you're a coach in the Carlisle dugout, what sequence is she going with and is she attacking the zone early in the count or not?

The importance of that first pitch strike Aly the odds like the batting average, the odds of getting on base for a batter. If a pitcher throws a first pitch strike, the odds go way down.

Yeah, definitely. Because the pitcher's pitch arsenal just completely opens up. I mean, if Hagedorn or Stoner for that matter, are ahead

Anyone you talk to within that program knows someone or is related to someone who has won a state championship with Coach Flaws.

Lindsay Stanford you're number six at ADM. You're number eight as a head coach. 176 victories. Currently at preschool teacher at Adel Elementary. Played high school ball at North Scott. Made state both as an eighth grader and a senior, and she said the state tournament back then just felt like big time. And nowadays she's like, it feels even more

grand. It was a first team All-American at the University of Northern Iowa and is a Uni Hall of Fame

[APPLAUSE]

inductee, and a first pitch to Ellis Smith is popped up to the second

Head coach Lindsay Stanford just becoming one of the coaching greats and you feel like this could be the year for ADM. And it's really a testament to her coaching and what she's been able to do. They play in such a difficult conference. I mean, they're playing the best competition day in and day out, and they are beyond prepared for this moment.

In the state championship game in 2017, 2018, 2020. Four. This is a rematch of the 2024 game and. Yesterday, after the win, we were talking to Lindsey and we said, all right, what's the mission this week? She said, unfinished

You can tell this team is just playing with a fire. They know there's unfinished business and they want to be the ones that get the job done.

I mean, depending on what happens in this next pitch, you if you're Carlisle, you say, maybe that's a blessing in disguise that she did not catch that.

ADM got it started as Kinzie Maxwell an RBI double and then Pitlick pop fly that injured Freeman scored another run in that first inning. This double play by ADM defensively got rid of the biggest threat from Carlisle.

And then it was Kinzie Maxwell. Once again. Her bat has been the highlight of this game for ADM. The home run. Out to center field. What a shot in ADM just capitalizing in the last inning, tacking on to their lead, securing themselves some insurance runs. And they are six outs away and they are feeling it.

Noring and Schaul with the RBI base hits in the fifth for Admiral. And for

Carlisle here in the sixth inning, they go to the top of the order as Lauren Hagedorn. Now for the third time, will face the leadoff batter, Chloe Roling, as the steady rain continues to fall on this for a

And sometimes what you're able to do during the regular season, you got to remember you've got two teams here in this championship game playing some of the best offensive and defensive softball of the season right now at this moment, to earn your way to this game, you got to be playing great this week.

And that's just it. I mean it's especially in a championship game. I mean you win. You're the champion. You lose your runner up and you have to change the approach slightly. And that's coaching players, everything like that. You can't waste

Here's the two two. It's grounded back to Hagedorn. The throw to second gets the lead runner safe at first is Oatts.

And a smart out. Lauren Hagedorn knows who she wants to get. She wants to get Chloe Roling off the base paths.

When that runner gets thrown out, you have to manufacture someone in scoring position, even if that means being slightly more aggressive. And I love the call there for that Steil to just get things moving, take the risk and see if it

It is so close right now. ADM can taste it. Look at this pitch by Hagedorn inside corner, right at the thighs.

And I mean, there is a reason these two teams were number one. And number two all throughout this season. Both these teams deserve to be in this championship game. But the bat of Kinzie Maxwell the arm of Lauren Hagedorn just absolutely unstoppable.
