Wind Turbine Gear Box

In this cylinder, the energy from the relatively slow movement of the blades is sped up and passed on to the generator. This gear box is housed in the nacelle, way at the top of the turbine, and is over 15 feet long.

What do you notice and wonder about the wind turbine gear box?

The interior parts of a wind turbine are housed in the nacelle of the wind turbine. The nacelle is the place where the parts that convert the wind energy into electricity are kept. The nacelle houses the main shaft, the gear box, and the generator.

The main shaft of a wind turbine helps to move the energy that the blades generate from the wind into the next part of the wind turbine.

The gear box converts low speed movement into high speed movement. The gear box is connected to the generator.

The DMACC Energy Park serves as an outdoor lab environment for DMACC students to receive training as wind and solar power technicians.
