Since 1969, students from West Des Moines have painted their faces, practiced their boxes and bitten their tongues to audition for one of the most exclusive clubs at Valley High School - The Baker's Dozen Mime Troupe. Touting a strong tradition passed down from an impressive list of alumni, The Baker's Dozen travels for road shows, performs on streets and hosts lively spring and fall revues which have become the stuff of legend. But it's the work behind the scenes that builds a strong mime team, and pitching new skits in a basement each Sunday night is more than just an exercise in creative collaboration, but also the continuance of a tradition started nearly fifty years ago.
