Ask the Expert: Independence Day Celebrations: A Look At America's Holiday in Iowa's Past

Ask the Expert is a free virtual event series designed to educate and inspire, connecting you to a variety of local experts specializing in cooking, DIY, or arts and culture. These free, interactive events will be available virtually to include participants from all across Iowa and to allow them to “Ask the Expert” questions live during the program. 

In this upcoming Ask the Expert, attendees will discover how the Fourth of July became a fixture in Iowa tradition and what components made up the celebration, including speeches, parades, music, decorations and fireworks. Photographs of re-created celebrations at Living History Farms, alongside historic newspaper accounts, will make history come to life! Presented by Janet Dennis, Director of Interpretation at Living History Farms.
