Narrator: larry niemeyer began coaching girls' basketball in 1959 at Adel High School. Like many male coaches just starting out, the girls' game was foreign to him.
Larry Niemeyer, Coach 1959 - present: I grew up in Illinois, went to high school in Illinois, and had never seen a six-on-six girls' basketball game. The first game I ever saw was one that I coached. I can remember having cotton mouth so bad. I was a pretty young guy, about 21 years of age. I couldn't even tell my kids who was going to start. My throat was so dry, I pointed to them, like that. They just grinned and went out on the floor.
