ca. 1940's Video World War II Veteran: John Phillips

In January of 1945, 22 year-old John Phillips of Waterloo was part of a group of replacement troops sent to the 106th Infantry Division fighting the Battle of the Bulge. After taking the town of Medell, Belgium, Phillips took a small group of men just beyond where most of his unit was camped.

In 1871 on a hill overlooking the Des Moines River, workers stop to pose during groundbreaking for the foundation of Iowa's first permanent capitol.

The New Deal brought relief to many Iowans by providing jobs. Government projects brought electricity to Iowa farms and introduced conservation projects all over the state.
