Farmers worked to conserve their rich soil. They tried many different techniques to get the most from their farm land.

1929-1939 Video Overproduction Leads to Low Prices

Farmers grew more crops than the country could use. This led to lower prices for farm products, which hurt farm families.

Portrait of George Washington Carver. 1864-1943. The son of slaves, this agricultural chemist discovered over three hundred uses for peanuts and many uses for soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes. He attended Simpson college and transferred to Iowa State University.
